Medical Physics Department of Mashhad Is One of the Most Prominent Members of IOMP

Dr. Asadinejad, faculty member in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, said: Medical Physics Department of Mashhad is not only ranked as excellent in the country, but also a great many of prominent professors in the world are well familiar with this very department, which is one of the most prominent members of the International Organization of Medical Physics (IOMP).

According to WebDa, in the ceremony of the world medical physics day held featuring Dr. Bahreini, the deputy of Management and Resource Development Administration, Dr. Tafaghodi, the deputy of Research and Technology Administration, and Dr. Bahrami, the deputy of Hygiene Administration of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Dr. Asadinejad said: the outstanding inventions of Madam Curie led to a new era in medical science and other sciences, as the radioactive materials are now applied in the treatment of many diseases.

He believes on the highest excellency of the Medical Physics Department of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in this scope in the country and averred: this department has been able to educate graduate and post graduate students in Masters and PhD in Medical Physics, and attempted to send these students to other universities in the country for some periods.

This faculty member of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences asserted: the office of Iran Medical Physics Journal which is an international one has been located in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences for some years. The journal presents articles in this scope in English for free to all those who are interested.

Dr. Asadinejad pointed out: Medical Physics Science is so extensive and includes the application of all Physics domains in Medical majors.

This assistant professor of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences asserted: one part of this extensive science is about ionizing rays (x-ray and gamma ray emitted from radioactive materials) and another part investigates non-ionizing rays (sound waves and ultrasound waves in ultrasound, heat waves in thermography and laser).

Speaking of Madam Curie’s invention: radium, he said: in early stages, the astonishing features of radium were extensively welcomed by the people all over the world, and could quickly enter the scope of medicine, as well. Though after a while some side effects were seen in the individuals who had been exposed to ionizing rays.

This faculty member of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences said: accordingly, some institutes and associations were then formed internationally to pursue the rules and standards of the correct and scientific usage of this material.

Dr. Asadinejad added: at the moment, the protective principles of prescribing ionizing rays must be convincing, i.e. according to the disciplines, the merits of using this materials for the patients must outweigh its demerits. With our current knowledge about the risks and problems in these materials, we are able to control their side effects.

The assistant professor of Medical Physics in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences spoke of the perspectives in Medical Physics Department and asserted: with the reputable and experienced professors, graduate and postgraduate students, its current facilities and working history, the Medical Physics Department of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences is known not only in Iran but also internationally, and will indeed have a bright future ahead.

In the end he highlighted that: many articles are published from this department in international journals, and prominent professors and scientists in Physics all over the world are familiar with the Medical Physics Department of Mashhad, such that this department has already had the potential to be one of the most prominent members of the International Organization of Medical Physics (IOMP).
