Shahid Hasheminejad Hospital

Shahid Hasheminejad Hospital

Educational, Research, and Treatment Center
Mashhad University of Medical Sciences (MUMS)

About the Hospital

Shahid Hasheminejad Educational, Research, and Treatment Center is a tertiary general hospital operating under Mashhad University of Medical Sciences (MUMS). With 460 active inpatient beds and National Grade-One Accreditation, it stands as one of the largest academic medical complexes in the region.

The center was originally established in 1954 (1333) over a 5-hectare campus in northeastern Mashhad, initially designed as a dedicated residential and treatment center providing care and welfare support to leprosy patients. In 1981 (1360), official administrative oversight was transferred to Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, inaugurating general clinical operations with four core services: Maternity, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, and Emergency Care. Between 1981 and 1989 (1360–1368), the center served as a major regional referral base for war wounded. In 1997 (1376), an educational and cultural complex was opened on the facility’s eastern grounds, and in November 2020 (Aban 1399), a newly constructed main hospital facility was officially inaugurated.

As the sole public hospital in northeastern Mashhad, Shahid Hasheminejad Hospital operates 24/7, providing healthcare coverage for more than 30% of Mashhad’s urban population and managing over 52% of all citywide emergency ambulance transfers. Housing 35 active clinical wards alongside specialized diagnostic and administrative departments, the institution also serves as a key clinical training center for emergency medicine, outpatient care, midwifery, anesthesiology, and physical rehabilitation.
