Health and Medical Education Ministry Hasan Hashemi, PhD, said that providing hospital 1,200 beds in the past two years in areas supported by Mashhad University of Medical Sciences was a unique measure taken by this university, WEBDA reported.

At the opening ceremony of Akbar Children Hospital in Mashhad, referring to the fact that Mashhad has been introduced as the cultural capital in the Islamic World, he noted that the city deserves far more measures to increase number of hospital beds.

“With the support of Municipality and Astan Quds Razavi, additional 2,000 to 3,000 hospital beds will turn Mashhad into an Islam-focused tourism center.”

Stressing plans to develop hospitals specific to women in Mashhad, he said, “One of my expectations is to construct some hospitals for females in Iran and I hope it will be fulfilled in Mashhad.”

“We are proud to claim that today females are active in a variety of medical fields,” he asserted, maintaining that women-focused hospitals and their providing all services for women as well as their creating comfort for them are vital in Mashhad.

Stating that women-focused hospitals are not specific to Muslim nations as they are common in U.S.A as well as European countries, he hoped that a hospital for women will be built next to Akbar Children Hospital.
