The Winner of the Highest Medal of Honor Award of Professor Yalda’s Congress

This faculty member of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences won the highest Medal of Honor awarded to him in the ceremony of the 7th Professor Yalda’s Congress.

According to WebDa, in the celebration of the 7th congress in honor of Professor Alireza Yalda and the International Congress of the Updates on Research Findings in Molecular, Cellular and Clinical Medical Sciences held with the coordination of Tehran University of Medical Sciences’ Alumni Office and Dr. Yalda’s International Scientific Foundation, this title was conferred on Dr. Seyyed MohammadHadi Amirian, a university professor in the clinical pediatrics department of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences.

In 1978, Dr. Seyyed MohammadHadi Amirian started his work in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences as an assistant professor in Pediatric Diseases. At that time, there were limited number of faculty members active in pediatric ward of Imam Reza Hospital affiliated to Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. There was almost no subspecialist in most fields except for cardiovascular pediatrics. Besides educating the students, interns and residents of pediatric ward, Dr. Amirian attempted to cure and follow the treatment process of a lot of patients in other specialties like pediatric hematology, endocrinology, infectious diseases and neonatology, and used to undertake practical and diagnostic measures in other pediatric specialties, as well.

In his interview with WebDa office of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Dr. Amirian asserted: ever since I initiated my job in pediatric ward, it is a great pleasure for me to say that I’ve constantly kept up with the latest updates in pediatric medicine education, acquiring necessary information and skills in this field and transferring them to pediatric students and graduates.

One everlasting joyful memory of my scientific life refers to the early years of my works in pediatric ward when I cured a four year old girl inflicted with leukemia with treatment methods available at that time. Fortunately she improved after the treatments and many years of medical support. Last year, she referred to me with her 9 year old son. With no possible index can we measure the magnitude and value of life and survival in a human who is now a painter and designer of embossed handmade carpets.

Another lasting memory is the diagnosis of Kawasaki disease in a five year old boy for the first time in Mashhad in 1989 that fortunately cured and improved as soon as our specialist treatment initiated. Now, he is living abroad in full health.

Dr. Amirian added: learning and teaching medicine never ends, especially for us, pediatric doctors and specialists. As to our emotional bound with our patients, with all due patience, endurance, grace and self-esteem, we never shun any endeavor to keep children’s state of full health and gift the families with the joy of having a healthy child.

Indicating that all his professional life has been accompanied with love, efforts and faith in God, this veteran professor of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences asserted that: in 1986, I was promoted to be an associate professor and in 1996, I became a full professor. Till March 2014, I diligently and passionately worked as a teacher in pediatric ward of Imam Reza Hospital affiliate to Mashhad University of Medical Sciences and taught students and residents. I had the honor of retirement after 37 years of service in 2014.

Dr. Amirian added that with regard to the invitation of Mashhad University of Medical sciences to continue working as an emeritus and as to his own personal interest, he will continue his activities in education and teaching residents in pediatric department.

One dimension of Dr. Amirian’s scientific achievements is supervising at least 40 specialist and general practitioner theses in pediatrics, publishing 50 articles in credible national and international journals, presenting 40-50 articles and giving lectures in international conferences in various universities in the country.

Among the honors achieved by this veteran emeritus professor of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences through 37 years of his educational services are the titles of: Distinguished Doctor of Khorasan Razavi’s Medical Council, the Distinguished Doctor in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, and Distinguished Doctor throughout the country and the Distinguished Doctor of Iranian Society of Pediatrics.

In the end, Dr. Amirian asserted: I honor all the achievements that I have been bestowed up on. Though my greatest honor is having an active role in educating and training the doctors that are either actively providing services in Mashhad University, in education and treatment-related issues in various cities of the vast Khorasan province, as young university lecturers and instructors in medical education, or are actively working on curing the kids of our home land.

“I honor all those kids whom I have met as patients within these 37 years who occasionally pay me visits and have kept in touch with me since then. Providing befitting services to treat and secure health in kids in our homeland is the greatest honor of all”.
