A Legacy of Excellence

The School of Nursing and Midwifery of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences holds a proud legacy as one of the pioneering institutions of nursing and midwifery education in Iran. Established in 1958 (1337 SH) under the title of Jurjani Nursing School, it initially launched three-year academic programs equivalent to a bachelor’s degree. Over the decades, through strategic mergers with prominent regional colleges, including Narjes, Tus, Bahar, and Mehrbakhsh, the school evolved into an enduring and authoritative academic institution dedicated to cultivating elite healthcare professionals.

Evolution and Growth

From its foundational years with decentralized facilities, the school has systematically expanded its academic horizon, clinical scope, and national reputation. A transformative phase occurred in the post-revolution era, followed by the school’s independence in 1991 (1370 SH) under Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. The institution rapidly developed its postgraduate portfolio, launching Master’s and Ph.D. programs in Nursing, Midwifery, Reproductive Health, Intensive Care, and Neonatal Critical Care. Today, offering 18 specialized programs across undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and postdoctoral levels, the school stands as the largest hub for nursing and midwifery education in Eastern Iran.

• Academic Reach: Over 60 years of academic training, graduating thousands of competent nurses, midwives, and healthcare specialists.
• Current Community: 1,006 enrolled students, with 217 students (21.5%) engaged in advanced postgraduate (M.Sc. and Ph.D.) research and clinical training.
• Faculty Strength: 67 academic lecturers and clinical instructors, including 59 ranked faculty members across professor, associate professor, and assistant professor levels.

• Specialized Departments: 6 academic departments encompassing Medical-Surgical Nursing, Pediatric & Neonatal Nursing, Psychiatric & Community Health, Midwifery & Reproductive Health, Critical Care & Emergency, and Operating Room Technology.
• Learning & Simulation Environments: Advanced Clinical Skill Labs (OSCE centers), specialized maternal-fetal simulation rooms, high-capacity lecture halls, seminar rooms, and computer suites.
