Congratulating the world anesthesia day, faculty member of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences said: “all patients who need a surgery require management of an anesthesiologist, too”.
Talking to WebDa, Dr. Mahdi Fathi said: “two things are important for a patient undergoing a surgery: stress management and pain management and an anesthesiologist focuses on them”.
This sub-specialist of cardiac anesthesia said: “the patients require minimal to deep anesthesia and they should be sedated to the extent that they do not feel any pain despite lowered consciousness”.
“In the meantime”, said associate professor of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, “the anesthesiologist attempts to control the patient health by controlling their cardiovascular status, breathing, electrolyte, intracellular and extracellular fluid balance before, while and after the surgery”.
He added: “the anesthesiologist looks after patient’s pain and tries to reduce it”.
Dr. Fathi noted that the field of anesthesia monitors the patient every moment and they are under supervision of anesthesiologists and anesthesiology staff who help anesthesiologists.
This anesthesiologist added: “anesthetic devices are produced to help anesthesiologist control patient’s health so that the status of their heart, brain, kidneys and body temperature remain normal”.
Associate professor of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences said: “from this aspect, an anesthesiologist is very knowledgeable since they should master internal and external organs of the patient such as brain, heart, endocrine glands, kidneys, liver and lungs”.
He said: “anesthesiologists are present not only in operating rooms but also in other treatment sections such as endoscopy, angiography, imaging, Coronary Interventional Procedures and radiology sections”.
Believing that anesthesiologists play a key role in taking care of the patients, Dr. Fathi said: “these people bear the responsibility of protecting the safety of the patient and play an important role in resurrection of critically ill patients such that patients who are badly injured in severe accidents survive thanks to anesthesiologists”.
This anesthesiologist said: “during the sacred defense, anesthesiologists were in the front line and continued to serve warriors of Islam in field hospitals under critical conditions”.
Dr. Fathi said: “anesthesiology is progressing in Iran consistent with the rest of the world and no technique, specialty or device can be mentioned that is used throughout the world of which anesthesiologists in Iran are unaware”.
He said: “we do not lack anesthesiologists; rather, we face a crowd of patients whom anesthesiologists try to treat with abnegation”.
Pointing to the need to graduates of anesthesiology, associate professor of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences said: “an anesthesiologist is in fact a pioneer in protecting patients’ health and safety and thus this day recalls their self-sacrifice”.
