200 Hospitals in Iran Engaged in Health Tourism Industry

According to Webda, Director General for Monitoring and Accreditation of Ministry of Health and Medical Education announced that 200 hospitals are active in health tourism, and efforts are made to increase that figure.

"The health tourism industry has long drawn the attention of the countries around the world and Iran is also actively focused on it," noted Dr. Mohammad Hossein Mir Dehghan at the Conference on Vision and Plans of International Affairs Department of Ministry of Health in Medical Regional Zones (hosted by Mashhad University of Medical Sciences).

He said, "Despite the favorable potential, Iran does not have a satisfactory position in attracting health tourists; and considerable effort has been invested in improving the quality of services and hospital Hoteling in recent years in order to attract more tourists. To this end, Universities of Medical Sciences across Iran are coordinated and their strategic policies and performance are continuously monitored. The standards for hospitals to enter the field of health tourism are now codified by Ministry of Health, health centers can receive the relevant certificates if they comply with these standards.”

Dr. Mir Dehghan pointed to designing a national online health tourism information base and added, “This website, which will be ready for use within two months, will contain all the [required] information about our health tourism potential, hospital hoteling, services and admission, and every patient from anywhere in the world will be able to be admitted to the desired hospital just by entering the website.”

The Conference on Vision and Plans of International Affairs Department of Ministry of Health in Medical Regional Zones was held with the attendance of officials from Ministry of Health and Chancellor and Vice Presidents for Treatment and Research of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in conference hall of Mashhad Gha’em hospital.
