A Brain Tumor Surgery Using Advanced Neuro-Navigation System Conducted in Mashhad

Head of neurosurgery department of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences announced that a new advanced technology-neuro-navigation-was used to remove brain tumors in Qaem educational-research, treatment center.

According to WebDa, pointing that supported by vice-presidents for education and treatment in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences and following perseverance of neurosurgery department and authorities of Qaem Hospital of Mashhad this device was recently purchased and installed in the neurosurgery operating room of Qaem Hospital, Dr. Hamid Etemad Rezaei said: “removing brain tumor surgery on patients with brain tumor using this technique was performed by the neurosurgery team of Qaem Hospital”.

Dr. Etemad Rezaei noted: “fortunately, remarkable efforts and perseverance of neurosurgery department and cooperation of authorities of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences to purchase this advanced device has finally bloomed and took neurological operating room of Qaem Hospital to world standard levels”.

Pointing that purchasing these facilities and applying them in brain surgeries has made it possible to achieve desirable results, he said: “using this device, removing brain and pituitary tumors, brain vessels complications such as AVM and biopsies in deep brain areas will be done more accurately and correctly; besides, this device can also be used in complex spinal cord surgeries”.

He said: “in line with achieving international standards, the brain surgery operating room has also purchased two advanced devices that, when operated in the near future, will provide high quality services for the patients”.

Dr. Etemad Rezaei pointed out that Advance Neuro Surgical Microscope is another device with special filters used to perform surgeries on brain vessels.

“Neurosurgery department of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences”, he added, “will be equipped with a device called operative neuro monitoring intera to control neurons of various body organs while surgery is being done and this will raise neurosurgery operating room of Qaem Hospital to the level of world standards”.

Head of neurosurgery department of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences went on to say that the neurosurgery department of the university is honored to become a scientific hub of neurosurgery education in the northeast of the country by gathering experienced professors in the fields of brain vessels, spinal cord, brain tumors, skull base lesions and stereotaxy.

Dr. Etemad Rezaei added: “applying the most advanced world techniques, professors of neurosurgery department of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences work in the field of neuroendovascular techniques to treat vascular lesion patients”.

He said: in order to achieve desirable outcomes in treating cerebrospinal patients, the neurosurgery department needs two advanced devices “biplane angiography” and “Intra operative MRI”.

He explained: “MRI is very crucial in the operating room and, fortunately, physical preparations have been made to equip the neurosurgery operating room of Emam Reza Hospital (2) with this system and we hope with support from authorities, this operating room be equipped with while surgery MRI device”.
