Establishment of the Comprehensive MS Center of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences

 In line with the policies of the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education in delivering comprehensive services to patient, the Comprehensive MS Center of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences was established at Ghaem (AJ) Educational Research Medical Center.

According to WEBDA, on the margins of this center’s inauguration, the Deputy of Treatment of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences stated that considering that Ghaem (AJ) Hospital is a neurology specialized center enjoying skilled specialists delivering services in this center, the Comprehensive MS Center was established with the aim of providing patients with integrated services.

Dr. Badiee pointed out that considering the existence of paraclinical requirements including imaging and physiotherapy, the Comprehensive MS Center was established in cooperation with the authorities of Ghaem (AJ) Hospital after allocation of an appropriate location and implementation of rehabilitation and equipment projects.

Stating that the establishment of the Comprehensive MS Center is considered as one of the main articles of the statute of MS associations across the world, the professor of the Department of Neurology of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences stated that in this center, patients are provided with all the required services including admission, registration, visiting, consultation, medication receipt, rehabilitation services, psychiatry and nutrition.

Pointing that this center was established in Ghaem (AJ) Hospital based on the legislation of the Ministry of Health on the establishment of comprehensive MS centers in type 1 universities, he stated that all the services provided for patients in this center will be free of charge.

This faculty member of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences emphasized that in this center, patients dispatched by specialist will be provided with first- and second-line medical and pharmaceutical services.

Regarding MS, which is mostly observed in women, he stated that MS is a debilitating and progressive disease mainly involving the youth (age group of 20 to 40).

Dr. Etemadi stated that despite the advancement of science, the cause of this illness is still unknown. Therefore, there is no definite treatment for this disease. He added that with the proper support of the Ministry of Health in allocation of drug subsidies to patients, the progression of this disease can fortunately be slowed down.
