Eight National and International Inventions Registered in Orthopedic Research Center of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences

With the efforts of faculty members of Orthopedics and Trauma Research Center of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, eight national and international inventions have been registered within the last two years.

According to WEBDA, Dr. Hossein Ebrahimzadeh notedthe registration of national and international unique invention of the orthopedic plaque used to correct deformities of deviations around the knee in this center, and said: “The license of producing this device has been issued by the Ministry of Health, and 500 devices have already been manufactured and entered the market.”

Dr. Ebrahimzadeh noted: “Designing a dynamic or multipurpose traction splint to help nursing care in patients with leg and hip fractures prior to surgery is the new invention of this center, with the aim of optimizing traction in legs and hips and reducing pressure ulcers in legs and heels.”

He added: “Another invention is the device generating fracture by three-point force, which is currently at the stage of laboratory studies.”

Three Gold Medals at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva

Head of Orthopedic Surgery and Trauma Research Center of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences said: “Three inventions of the researchers of this center won the gold medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva in 2016.”

Dr. Mohammad Hossein Ebrahimzadaeh added: “The first invention is the Smart Bone Fractures Reduction Device which can be used for long bones without having to open the location of the fracture.”

He added: “The second invention of the researches of this center is the Anchored Plaque which is a very suitable method for reduction of fractures. Using this device, the current technical limitations in periarticular split fractures are reduced.”

Head of Orthopedic Surgery and Trauma Research Center of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences mentioned Hip Fracture Reduction Device for the elderly patients as another invention and said: “This device has the advantages of open techniques without surgical stress for elderly patients with medical issues.”

He said: “Each of these inventions won one gold medal, with a total of three gold medals at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva in 2016.”

Cell Therapy and Bone Cartilage Engineering Clinic to be Established

Dr. Ebrahimzadeh said: “Orthopedics Research Center of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences with a group of 30 experts has created a comprehensive core of specialists from the fields of orthopedics, medicine, physical medicine, and engineering fields of electrical, mechanical, computer, electronic, tissue and biomaterial.”

He added: “This is the first research center in the field of orthopedics in the country which has established infrastructures of a research medical laboratory, and cell and tissue engineering.”

Head of Orthopedic Surgery and Trauma Research Center of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences said: “Cell therapy and bone cartilage engineering clinic will also be established in this center.”

He said: “Also, professional doctorate courses in clinical and basic fields and tissue engineering have been established.”

Dr. Ebrahimzadeh added: “Orthopedic Surgery and Trauma Research Center of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences is the publisher of an international journal named Journal of the Archives of Bone & Joint Surgery, which has been indexed in globally reputable indices, and has received high-level scientific papers from researchers of the country and worldwide.”

He added: “60 percent of the papers of this journal as the only orthopedic publication of Iran, are from international researchers and 40 percent are from Iranian ones.”
