Launching Thoracoscope Device in Imam Reza Hospital, Mashhad

The Thoracoscope device was launched and employed for the first time in the Internal Ward (Lung) Department of Imam Reza Hospital which is a center under coverage of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences.

According to WebDa, this device that cost 1.3 billion Rials was launched with the aim of reducing complications of patients in need of diagnostic sampling from lungs, diaphragm, pericardium and mediaset previous of the pleural area that is used in cooperation with Deputy of Education in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences.

Dr Mohammad Reza Kasrayi, pulmonologistand faculty member of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences said in this regard that Thoracoscopy is a semi-aggressive technique that is used when diagnosis is not possible with other methods and after local anesthesia and a tiny cut in posterlateral position of the chest enters the pleur space via a pleuroscope and different complications can be observed and appropriate sample can be taken.

Dr Kasrayi added: Thoracoscopy can be applied for patients with Pleurisy due to unknown reasons or for doing Pleurodesis.

Referring to the fact that in other similar diagnostic operations that are done by thoracic surgeon, the patient should be totally anesthesized and tubes are put in the trachea and breathing should be done using this device to the end of the operation, he added: by applying this device, the duration of hospitalization will be reduced from 2 or 3 days to only a few hours.

He said: as the duration of patient hospitalization is reduced, the cost of treatment also reduces and by being under insurance coverage, this operation seems to be well-justified.

It should be noted that: currently this device is being used in a very small number of university centers around the country and it is being launched for the first time throughout all Razavi, North and South Khorasan provinces in Imam Reza Hospital in Mashhad.
