Publishing an Article in a Valid Journal

The aforementioned article on oral formulation preparation from insulin protein drugs is related to a research work carried out by Dr. Mona Ali Bolandi, the research assistant professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences Research Center. The results of this study have been published with the impact factor of 7.7 in the Journal of Controlled Release which is one of the most valid journals on drug delivery.

Despite the recent developments in the area of insulin therapy, Oral Drug Delivery of Insulin has remained one of the long-term goals of the pharmaceutical industry. Although developments such as injector jet, insulin pump, artificial pancreas, and most importantly, insulin pens have been released in the market in recent years, inconvenience and lack of patient admission are among major obstacles to treatment.

The existence of different protease enzymes in the digestive system is a major problem with using oral formulation of insulin protein. To overcome this problem, the best way is to use nanoparticles for enclosing the insulin molecule. In this regard, using the direct hydration method, an inexpensive and efficient method without any organic solvents, a nano-polymersomes composed of dextran hydrophilic polymer and hydrophobic polymer (PLGA) has been prepared. Based on the direct hydration method, the encapsulation efficiency of insulin increases with increased insulin concentration and encloses over 90% of insulin. Given the results of SDS-PAGE and CD, the structure of insulin, which is similar to standard insulin, remains intact during the formulation and release of insulin. Thus, it can operate in the body like basal insulin. In studies carried out in vivo on diabetic rats, it was observed that after nine hours of oral administration of insulin, the rate of blood glucose in rats reduced to 98 mg/dl and this effect lasted for 12 hours. Given the obtained results, it can be stated that the resulting formulation can be a good carrier for oral drug delivery of insulin.

This study has been carried out in collaboration with Dr. Ramezani, Dr. Hadizadeh, Dr. Abnous, Dr. Sadeqi and Fatemeh Al-abdullah, general student of Pharmacy.
