Implementing the Screening Program as One of the Main Strategies in Controlling and Preventing Cancer

The International Cancer Congress is being held in Mashhad with the attendance of about 500 physicians and specialists from home and abroad.

According to WEBDA, during the three days of the Congress, May 18-20, 2016, the latest findings related to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of all cancer types will be presented to participants in the Congress.

The Head of the Radiological and Oncology Society of Iran stated that the prevalence of cancer is increasing in Iran, and there are currently loads of problems and challenges in the country regarding the diagnosis and treatment of cancer.

Dr. Mohammad Reza Qavam Nasiri added that 90 thousand new cases suffering from cancer are reported annually about half of whom unfortunately pass away.

He pointed out that with the help of screening and early diagnosis as well as advanced medical and pharmaceutical facilities, the majority of cancer sufferers in developed countries such as America, Canada and Australia are treated successfully and live a normal life span.

He considered the establishment of the National Cancer Committee in the Ministry of Health as one of the significant steps in controlling and fighting cancer in the country.

He added that it is hoped that diagnosis and treatment activities and measures for cancer in Iran are established on a valid scientific base.

At the end of his speech, he added that early diagnosis, tracking and screening, providing advanced radiotherapy devices, and new medications are the most important strategies for controlling and treating cancer in our country.

Pointing to the growing trend of cancer in our country, the Administrator of Razavi Specialist Hospital of Mashhad stated at the opening of this Congress that the promotion of general and specialized awareness regarding cancer is required in today’s world.

Dr. Saeed Hashemzadeh added that the International Cancer Congress is aimed at discussing the latest achievements in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer with the presence of experts in Oncology, Radiation Therapy, Neurosurgery, Gynecological Surgery, Pathology and Nuclear Medicine from home and abroad.

He stated that this Congress is attended by 12 foreign guests from Germany, the Netherlands, Canada and Australia.

According to him, during this Congress, 42 lectures and 108 articles are presented on the diagnosis and treatment of different types of cancer including the Upper Gastrointestinal Tract Cancer, Palliative Medicine, Breast Cancer, Head and Neck, And Colorectal Cancer.

According to Hashemzadeh, holding training workshops in the areas of cancer diagnosis and treatment and performing a number of live surgeries in the presence of foreign specialized doctors are among the side events of this Congress.
