A Successful Operation in Mashhad Ghaem Hospital
Neurosurgery specialists of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences succeeded to perform the surgery of removing sacrum bone tumor in a single stage.
According to WebDa, this surgery was headed by Dr. Babak Ganjeifar, faculty member in Neurosurgery Department of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in Ghaem Research, Education and Treatment Center on a middle aged patient.
Dr. Ganjeifar asserted: the surgery took 7 hours and the sacrum tumor was completely removed along one single stage of surgery.
“Tumors in Sacrum area are conventionally removed in two stages from the abdomen and back of the patient. Accordingly, the patient has to undergo two stages of hospitalization and anesthesia”, he said.
This assistant professor of neurosurgery in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences added: among the advantages of performing this surgery in one single stage are the fact that there is no need to open up the patient’s abdomen which prevents its possible side effects.
Highlighting that for the first time in Ghaem Hospital this surgery is done, Dr. Ganjeifar said: the patient is now in good general condition.
He pointed out that: this surgery is not possible in all tumors in sacrum area. Based on the doctor’s diagnosis and preference, this surgery can be performed in one or two stages.
