Head’s Message

Welcome to the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. With a faculty of 27 members, including experts in subspecialties like Cardiac, Pediatric, and Transplant Anesthesia, we are dedicated to providing the highest standards of perioperative care. Our department serves as a pillar of the university’s teaching hospitals, managing high-risk patients across six different clinical centers. We are deeply committed to both clinical excellence and academic leadership, ensuring our residents and fellows are prepared to address the complex challenges of modern medicine.

Overview

Our department is a large, multi-disciplinary unit comprising 8 Professors, 12 Associate Professors, and 7 Assistant Professors. We actively manage a comprehensive training portfolio for residents, fellows, and medical students. Beyond our clinical duties, our faculty members hold key leadership positions in national and regional health policy, scientific societies, and university administration, reflecting our influence and commitment to the broader healthcare system.

Expertise

The department provides specialized training and clinical services in:

• Critical Care Medicine: Comprehensive management of ICU patients across 6 specialized units.
• Cardiac Anesthesia: Specialized support for complex cardiac surgeries.
• Pediatric Anesthesia: Advanced anesthetic care for pediatric surgical patients.
• Transplant Anesthesia: Expertise in supportive care for organ transplantation.
• Pain Management: Specialized fellowship-led pain services.

Clinical Scope

We provide anesthesia and critical care coverage across 6 teaching hospitals:

• Imam Reza Hospital: 32 operating rooms, including cardiac, burn, and infertility centers, and 121 ICU beds.
• Ghaem Hospital: 24 operating rooms and 66 ICU beds.
• Akbar Hospital: Specialized pediatric anesthesia.
• Khatam Al-Anbiya Hospital: Specialized surgical support.
• Mentasserieh Hospital: Surgical and perioperative services.

Educational & Research Mission

• Vision: To excel in anesthesia education, critical care, and perioperative medicine through international standards and interdisciplinary innovation.
• Mission: To train competent specialists and fellows while delivering safe, high-quality, evidence-based anesthesia services to the community.
• Objectives: Standardizing clinical training, supervising residency evaluations (DOPS/360), promoting research (IRCT registration/systematic reviews), and maintaining active participation in national scientific committees.
