Welcome to the Department of Emergency Medicine at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. Since our foundation 15 years ago, we have evolved from a small core team into one of the leading clinical departments in Iran. We are deeply committed to excellence in patient care, education, and research. Our goal is not only to provide high-quality emergency treatment but also to serve as a national model for medical training. By integrating modern clinical concepts and fostering a culture of continuous improvement, we strive to empower our students, residents, and staff to deliver compassionate and evidence-based care. Overview

The Department of Emergency Medicine was established in 1387 SH with an initial core of 5 specialists. By 1389 SH, the department began admitting residents, expanding its educational capacity. Over the past 15 years, the department has experienced significant quantitative and qualitative growth, now comprising 23 faculty members. It operates across three major educational and treatment centers, maintaining a high standard of patient satisfaction and academic achievement in residency board exams.

Expertise

The department possesses comprehensive expertise in emergency management, including:

• Triage (ESI System): Advanced patient classification and prioritization.
• Acute Resuscitation (CPR): Management of unstable patients.
• Clinical Examination: Specialized evaluation of cardiac, trauma, and ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) cases.
• Poisoning Management: Acute toxicity intervention.
• Fast Track Services: Rapid assessment and treatment for non-critical (Level 4-5) patients.

Clinical Scope

The department operates at three primary educational hospitals in Mashhad:

• Imam Reza Hospital: Home to the Adalatian Emergency Center, a major referral hub.
• Ghaem Hospital: Focuses on neurology and neurosurgical emergencies.
• Hasheminejad Hospital: The center for trauma and orthopedic emergencies.

Educational & Research Mission

The department is dedicated to training skilled emergency physicians, interns, and medical students. Its mission involves fostering a high-quality educational environment that emphasizes evidence-based practice. Research efforts are aimed at improving clinical protocols and patient outcomes. The department aspires to become the premier hub for emergency medical education in the region, utilizing the latest educational technologies and maintaining strong international and national academic relations.
