Overview

Welcome to the Department of English and General Courses at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. Formally established in 2011 (1390 SH) by the University Academic Council, our department plays a pivotal role in the foundational education of all students across the university.

Supported by dedicated full-time faculty members and a collaborative network of over 40 experienced adjunct lecturers, we are responsible for delivering essential general courses, including General English and English for Specific Purposes (ESP), Persian Language and Literature, Physical Education, and Holy Defense Studies.

Our Expertise

Our department specializes in language pedagogy, communication skills, and general education curriculum design. Our key areas of activity and expertise include:

• Academic & Professional English: Designing and teaching General English and ESP courses tailored to various medical and health science disciplines.
• Testing & Assessment: Developing standardized language proficiency assessments, placement tests, and preparation exams for basic sciences, M.Sc., and Ph.D. candidates.
• International Student Support: Providing specialized Persian language training programs for non-Iranian international students.
• Professional Development: Designing and conducting English language empowerment workshops and in-service training programs for university staff and faculty members.
