History and Evolution

Rooted in the university’s long-standing commitment to sustainability and occupational well-being, our institutional framework has grown in tandem with the Departments of Environmental Health Engineering and Occupational Health and Safety Engineering. Over the years, the scope has expanded from fundamental laboratory safety and waste management to comprehensive, system-wide HSE management systems (HSE-MS), incorporating modern risk assessment protocols, emergency response planning, and rigorous environmental auditing across all MUMS affiliated facilities.

Our operational and academic scope encompasses a broad spectrum of preventive and protective disciplines:

• Occupational Health & Hygiene: Anticipating, recognizing, and controlling physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic hazards in workplaces and laboratories.
• Industrial & Institutional Safety: Implementing rigorous safety protocols for machinery, electrical systems, fire prevention, and hazardous material handling.
• Environmental Protection & Waste Management: Managing medical, chemical, and general waste streams, minimizing environmental footprints, and ensuring sustainable resource consumption.
• Risk Management & Emergency Preparedness: Conducting safety audits, hazard identification and risk assessment (HIRA), and coordinating emergency response drills for campus-wide resilience.
