Head's Message

Welcome to the Department of Islamic Studies. At Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, we believe that medical excellence must be rooted in a strong ethical and cultural foundation. Our department serves as a bridge between scientific education and the moral values that guide healthcare professionals in their service to society.

Since our establishment, we have been committed to fostering an academic environment where students can explore the theoretical, historical, and ethical dimensions of Islamic thought. By integrating these critical subjects into the medical curriculum, we strive to nurture professionals who are not only skilled in their fields but also grounded in wisdom, ethics, and a deep understanding of their cultural heritage. We invite you to engage with our programs and join our community of academic and moral inquiry.

Overview

Welcome to the Department of Islamic Studies at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. Our department is dedicated to providing a deep and structured understanding of Islamic teachings, ethics, and civilization within the academic context of medical education.

Following our separation from Ferdowsi University, the department took on its formal academic identity in 1997 (1376 SH) and officially integrated into the School of Medicine in 2008 (1387 SH). Today, we serve as an essential academic unit responsible for delivering the core Islamic Studies curriculum, ensuring that students balance their specialized medical training with a comprehensive foundation in religious thought, ethics, and history.

Our Expertise

Our faculty members are specialists in various branches of Islamic humanities. The department's expertise focuses on the analytical study of Islamic texts, history, and modern religious thought, with a particular emphasis on the intersection of Islam and medical ethics. Our activities are categorized into five major domains:

  • Theoretical Foundations of Islam: Investigating Islamic worldview and political-social rights.
  • Islamic Ethics: Exploring moral philosophy, practical mysticism, and the philosophy of living.
  • Familiarity with Islamic Sources: Thematic interpretation of the Holy Qur'an and Nahj al-Balagha.
  • Islamic Revolution: Studying the history, constitution, and political thought of the Islamic Revolution of Iran.
  • History and Civilization: Analyzing the history of Islamic and Iranian culture, early Islamic history, and the history of the Imamate.

Curriculum Structure

As part of the general academic requirements, all undergraduate students are required to complete 12 credits of Islamic Studies coursework. The curriculum is structured across the five aforementioned areas to provide a holistic educational experience.

In addition to these core areas, the department is also responsible for delivering mandatory courses on Family and Population and History of Islamic and Iranian Civilization, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped to address societal and familial health challenges from an informed ethical perspective.
