Overview

Welcome to the Department of Medical Physics at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. Officially established in the School of Medicine during the academic year 1982–1983 (1361–1362) following the return of pioneering faculty members from abroad, the department has grown into a leading academic and scientific center in the region. Prior to its establishment, medical physics courses were offered within the School of Sciences; however, the post-revolutionary curriculum recognized medical physics as an essential basic medical science, prompting the creation of this independent department. Today, the department is dedicated to advanced research and specialized education, serving as a critical pillar for training healthcare professionals, medical students, and postgraduate researchers.

Our Expertise

The Department of Medical Physics is characterized by its broad educational reach, national administrative contributions, and clinical collaborations. Our key areas of focus include:

• Comprehensive Academic Instruction: The department delivers essential physics and medical physics coursework to students in Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy, alongside various allied health programs including radiology technology, laboratory sciences, nursing, midwifery, anesthetics, and public health.
• Clinical & Departmental Collaborations: Our faculty members actively collaborate with clinical departments—such as Radiotherapy, Radiology, and Dermatology—to deliver specialized academic training and support clinical research.
• National Leadership: Members of our department have consistently played central roles in national evaluation boards and scientific committees, contributing significantly to the curriculum development and assessment of medical physics across Iran.
• International Engagement: We regularly host scientific workshops and lectures featuring prominent Iranian medical physicists and molecular radiobiologists based at leading international institutions.
