Welcome to the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. In recent decades, nutritional sciences have become a cornerstone of public health, particularly as the world faces a rising prevalence of non-communicable diseases such as obesity, malnutrition, and metabolic disorders. Our department is dedicated to the critical role that nutrition plays in primary prevention, management, and control of these health challenges. Supported by our experienced faculty members, we are committed to training the next generation of specialists in Food Safety and Hygiene and Community Nutrition. Overview

Welcome to the Department of Nutritional Sciences at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. The department’s history traces back to 2005 (1384 AH), when it was initially established as the “Department of Biochemistry and Nutrition” following its separation from the Department of Biophysics. As the field evolved and academic requirements grew, the department achieved independence in 2010 (1389 AH) under the leadership of its first chair, Dr. Mohsen Ne’mati. Most recently, in 2023 (1402 AH), the department underwent a strategic restructuring, dividing into two independent units: the Department of Nutritional Sciences and the Department of Clinical Nutrition. Today, we are proud to serve as a specialized academic center dedicated to training experts in Community Nutrition and Food Safety and Hygiene.
