Overview

Welcome to the Department of Pharmacology at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. The department’s academic activities began before 1966 under the leadership of Dr. Karim Darabi in the old School of Medicine building. In 1971, the department moved to the Experimental Medicine building on the Ghaem (AJ) Hospital campus, and in 1983, it officially established its independent structure. The department launched its specialized PhD program in 1999 and established the Pharmacological Research Center of Medicinal Plants in 2004. Today, the department is dedicated to providing high-quality pharmacology education and conducting advanced scientific research.

Our Expertise

The Department of Pharmacology focuses on the study of drug mechanisms, therapeutic applications, and toxicology. Our key areas of focus include:

• Academic Instruction: Providing pharmacology courses for medical, dental, and various allied health sciences students.
• Medicinal Plants & Natural Products: Investigating the therapeutic effects of traditional herbs through our dedicated research center.
• Specialized Research Fields: Conducting advanced research in cardiovascular pharmacology, insulin secretion, toxicology (nephrotoxicity and neurotoxicity), neuropharmacology, cancer, pharmacogenetics, and cell culture.
• Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Bridging the gap between basic pharmacological sciences and clinical applications in hospital settings.
