Welcome to the Department of Psychiatry. Our department is committed to providing comprehensive mental health services and excellence in psychiatric education. We believe in a holistic, multidisciplinary approach to care that encompasses clinical psychiatry, psychotherapy, and social health. By fostering a collaborative environment at Ibn Sina Hospital, we aim to train compassionate and skilled psychiatrists who can address the complex mental health needs of our community. Our faculty is dedicated to advancing the field through evidence-based practice, integrated research, and continuous professional development.

Overview

The Department of Psychiatry at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences has evolved through several institutional stages, beginning with psychiatric teaching at Hejazi Psychiatric Hospital and later moving to Ghaem Hospital and then Saleh Hospital. In 1379 SH, psychiatric education was transferred to Ibn Sina Hospital, which remains the department’s main academic and clinical center. Today, the department serves as an important hub for undergraduate and postgraduate psychiatric education.

Expertise

The department has expertise in general psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, geriatric psychiatry, addiction psychiatry, psychotherapy, community mental health, and consultation-liaison psychiatry. It also has interdisciplinary strengths in psychosomatic care, prevention of social harms, and the integration of mental health with other medical and social disciplines.

Clinical Scope

Clinical services are delivered at Ibn Sina Hospital and include outpatient and inpatient psychiatric care, resident training, and consultation services for patients admitted to other hospital departments, especially Imam Reza Hospital. The department also provides specialized services in child and adolescent psychiatry, geriatric mental health, addiction care, and psychosocial interventions.

Educational & Research Mission

The department provides theoretical and practical training for medical students, psychiatry residents, child and adolescent psychiatry subspecialty residents, and students from allied health fields. Its educational and research mission includes collaboration with research centers and other university departments in genetics, rehabilitation, occupational therapy, psychiatric nursing, psychology, speech therapy, and physiotherapy. The department is committed to advancing evidence-based mental health education, research, and multidisciplinary care.
