Overview

Welcome to the Department of Radiation Oncology (Radiotherapy Oncology) at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. Located at Omid Hospital, a dedicated oncology center, the department specializes in the non-surgical treatment of cancer using ionizing radiation, chemotherapy, and targeted therapies. Historically operating alongside general radiology and nuclear medicine, radiation oncology was established as an independent academic department to meet the growing need for specialized oncology care. Today, the department is a key regional center for oncology education, clinical trials, and multidisciplinary cancer care.

Our Expertise

The Department of Radiation Oncology provides comprehensive cancer management and specialized training:

• Radiation Therapy: Planning and delivering external beam radiation therapy, 3D-CRT, and other advanced radiation techniques for solid tumors.
• Systemic Cancer Therapy: Administering chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapies in inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Multidisciplinary Cancer Care: Collaborative management of oncology patients through tumor boards, partnering with surgical oncology, pathology, and diagnostic imaging.
• Clinical Training: Providing residency training in radiation oncology and teaching medical students the principles of cancer management.
• Oncology Research: Conducting clinical trials and outcomes research to evaluate the efficacy of cancer treatments and improve patient survival rates.
