Overview

Welcome to the Department of Radiology at Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. Radiology is a medical specialty that uses imaging technologies, including X-ray–based and other advanced modalities, to diagnose and guide the treatment of disease. Radiology services began at Imam Reza Hospital in 1939 and at Ghaem Hospital with its establishment in 1971. The two radiology departments operated separately from 1973 and were later integrated in 1985. Since 2004, structured rotation between the two teaching hospitals has enabled residents to benefit from the educational experience and clinical expertise available across both centers.

Over the years, the department has developed from conventional radiography services into a broad academic and clinical center with dedicated subspecialty training and interventional radiology services.

Our Expertise

The Department of Radiology provides diagnostic, educational, and image-guided clinical services across major areas of radiological practice:

• Diagnostic Imaging: Providing imaging services to support the diagnosis and clinical management of a wide range of medical and surgical conditions.
• Subspecialty Radiology: Educational and clinical activities in cardiovascular and interventional radiology, neuroradiology, musculoskeletal imaging, chest imaging, abdominal imaging, pediatric radiology, and emergency and trauma radiology.
• Interventional Radiology: Delivering image-guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures at Imam Reza, Ghaem, Shahid Kamyab, and Dr. Sheikh hospitals.
• Academic Training: Providing structured education for medical students, radiology residents, and trainees in advanced radiological practice.
• Fellowship Education: Offering advanced training opportunities in interventional radiology.
