Researchers of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences studied the effect of the family’s contribution in the mother’s health and in the length of hospitalization of the premature infant.
According to WEBDA, this research project was conducted in the form of a clinical trial on 60 nulliparous mothers and their premature infants hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Faculty Member and Head of Department of the Neonatal Intensive Care in the Nursing and Midwifery School of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences stated that in this research, 60 nulliparous mothers and their premature infants were randomly divided into two groups, family’s contribution and control. Accordingly, the empowerment of family’s contribution group was performed for primary care, and the control group received the usual care.
Hamidreza Behnam Vashani stated that the independent t-tests showed a significant difference between the mean of general health in the family’s contribution group and the control group in the post-intervention stage. However, it did not show any significant difference between these two groups in the length of hospitalization.
He added that on the basis of the results obtained, the family’s contribution in the premature infant care can improve the mother’s general health, and it is suggested as a practical method for family health improvement.
