Uncontrolled Occupational Stresses Lead to Different Physical Diseases

Occupational Health Director of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences said that the occupational damages resulted by stress are divided into three categories including "physical, behavioral and psychological damages " made in the workplace by uncontrolled stress.  

Mr. Farshid Wafa, an expert, said that if occupational stresses have not been controlled and prevented, they can make different damages and various diseases in people. He mentioned various diseases resulted by stresses such as stomach ulcers, cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular disease, tendency to use drugs and alcohol, violence, conflict, eating disorder, disruption of family relationships, sleep disorders, sexual dysfunction and depression. He continued that the underlying factors of stress in staff and workers have been divided into two occupational fields and contents.

Mr. Farshid Wafa, an expert, said: the organizational culture, compliance with the capacity to work, job security, job promotion status in the organization, the role of the individual in organizational decision-making process, relationships with colleagues, the noise, the dust and long shifts are the causes of stress in the workplace. 

He mentioned that 28 April of 2016, 9 Ordibehesht of 1395, has been named World Day of Occupational Safety and Health with the slogan “Workplace stress, common challenges”. 

He, in charge of occupational health of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, said that there is not any report on the stress level in the workplaces in Iran and Razavi Khorasan.  He said that one of the programs of occupational health of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences in the current year is to investigate the work-related damages in the workplaces of Razavi Khorasan with the cooperation of industry, mine and trade organization of Razavi Khorasan.
