Early Detection of Behavioral Disorders Leads to the Acceleration of Treatment Process

The director of Speech- Language Pathology Department of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences referred to 10%-24% prevalence of speech disorders in Iran and said: the early detection of these disorders can accelerate the treatment process.

Dr. Davoud Sobhani, in an interview with WEBDA, mentioned the occasion of National Day of the speech- language pathology with an emphasis on the early detection of oral disorders that the failure in speech or inability to understand the speech of others can form the disorders in the social relationships of the person, and it can be an obstacle in his progress and prevents the spread of his full abilities and potential talents.

He, as the faculty member of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences said: inattention to treatment of speech disorders can lead to emotional and psychological injuries and behaviors including withdrawal, aggression and finally instability in the mental health of individuals and families.

The director of Speech- Language Pathology Department of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences referred to this matter that speech and language impairments are varied, ranging from children to adults, and said:  stuttering, articulation disorders, speech and language disorders in children with learning difficulties and language disorders, hearing-impaired children, mentally retarded children, autistic children and also stroke patients with behavioral disorders and swallowing due to the lack of the larynx and its damages are considered some cases of disorders. 

Dr. Sobhani referred to 10%-24% prevalence of speech disorders in Iran according to the results of various studies and added: with initiatives such as screening for speech and language disorders, there can be expanded public education and prevented damage prevention resulted through these disorders.

The director of Speech- Language Pathology Department of Para Medical School congratulated Speech-Language Pathology Day to active population in this field and added: in order to increase public awareness, the consultation and information stations of speech language pathology in Imam Reza Hospital, Qaem hospital and Dr. Sheikh Hospital should be increased and held with the participation of students in speech- language pathology.

Also, the celebration of Speech Language Pathology Day, 24 April-5 Ordibehesht, will be held in the amphitheater of Dental College from 16:30-20. All faculty members, students and staff of Medical Sciences have been invited to this celebration.
