Health literacy is defined as people’s capacity for obtaining, interpreting, and understanding preliminary information and health services, which are necessary for appropriate decision-making.
Health literacy also includes a set of reading, listening, analysis and decision-making skills, and the ability to use these skills in health positions. This is not necessarily related to the years of education or the general reading ability.
Considering the importance of the healthcare system in the society, preventing the spread of chronic diseases, reducing healthcare costs, people’s attention to preventive measures for preventing chronic diseases, and promoting public health in the society, it seems necessary to recognize the level of health literacy for making decisions necessary for its promotion.
Studying and understanding the level of citizens’ health literacy helps policy-makers and planners in urban health to provide appropriate solutions for promoting the health literacy of citizens.
