World Environmental Health Day Conference Held in Mashhad

The conference celebrating the world day of environmental health is held in Mashhad University of Medical Science.

According to WebDa, this conference is held in Homa Hotel in Mashhad with the endeavors of Health and Hygiene Administration of Mashhad University of Medical Sciences featuring the deputy of Health and Hygiene Administration of the university, the director of the Organization of Controlling Tobacco Products affiliated to the Ministry of Health, the counselor of the university president and directors from other departments.

The deputy of Health and Hygiene Administration of Mashhad University of Medical Science, Dr. Seyyed Kazem Farahmand, stated: this conference is held annually with the purpose of emphasizing the importance of inter-department activities in the scope of environmental and professional health, and awarding and appreciating active organizations and helpful forces serving in this field.

“The purpose of naming the day by the World Health Organization is raising consciousness and sensitivity among people, giving awareness and calling for support from developmental organizations”, said Dr. Farahmand.

Referring to the slogan of the day as “Tobacco Control, a response to the global tobacco pandemic”, he averred: as to the lack of legal prevention and restrictions in providing and distributing them comparing to illegal drug consumption, fighting against tobacco products is a more difficult undertaking.

“There should be a special commitment to the concerns of environmental health. The issue requires public participation and support from all developmental organizations”, he asserted.

Considering the 2 billion and 857 million dollar consumption of tobacco products, he maintained that, by enacting the law of forbidding tobacco product consumption in public places, influential strides are undertaken in order to control the consumption.

Dr. Farahmand pointed out that: Mashhad University of Medical Sciences has performed successfully in controlling smoking hobble-bubble in the country. This success is owed to the efforts of environmental health engineers and helpful cooperation of other developmental organizations.
